The Global Positioning System (GPS) provides extremely accurate
position and timing information. A technique called Differential
GPS (DGPS) is used to increase the accuracy of the GPS system.
For the highest levels of performance, a technique known as
Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) is used allowing one to two centimeters
position accuracy.
The fundamental concept of DGPS/RTK is the use of a reference
GPS receiver placed in a known location. The reference receiver
monitors the system errors and formats corrections messages that
are transmitted to the other GPS user equipment.
Pacific Crest Corporation manufactures a Positioning Data Link
communication products that provide the critical connection
between the GPS reference station and other GPS user equipment.
